Recalls! Not a word car manufacturers like to hear. They costs millions, sometimes billions and they degrade the manufacturer’s brand reputation. Handle them carelessly, and it becomes daily negative news. I feel for the GM workers who have nothing to do with the poor judgment exercised by top company management that has resulted in the recall crisis that we read about daily. Hopefully, in the future, all car makers will handle recalls in a timely and safe manner.
Ford is not immune to recalls. Not by a long shot. I remember the 2001 Firestone tire recall like it was yesterday. I was driving back from our Suffolk dealership when my assistant, DiAnn called to let me know that two local TV stations and their reporters were waiting for my return and wanted a comment from me! I knew almost nothing at that point, but I did my best to assure the reporters that we would make any affected vehicles in our inventory off limits for sale and would replace all of our affected customers’ tires, as soon as we could – not much else to say when you don’t know the extent of the recall, but I would soon find out!
The good news was that Ford spent whatever they had to in order to replace millions of defective tires. Also, Beach Ford got to see many customers that we had not seen in a while and many people used the recall opportunity to have maintenance work completed, some of it, long overdue. Ford, even today, has several recalls in play. The 2008 -2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner Electronic Power Steering recall is underway. So is one for a power steering module in 2011 – 2013 Ford Explorers. The 2010 – 2014 Ford Taurus has a recall for a license plate lamp assembly. Sounds bad, right? Well, in Ford’s case, they declared these recalls in a timely manner and they are going to fix them. The really important thing is that you get the recall completed. You would not believe the number of people who don’t bother to have recalls done on their cars and trucks! The mentioned Ford recalls are scheduled to begin July 25, 2014 and anyone in our Beach Ford Family, who might be wondering if there vehicle is affected, can call 1-800-392-3673.
Like I said earlier, no one likes a recall, but if they are performed correctly and in a timely manner, they allow your vehicle to function well, and hopefully for many years to come. Plus, when you do bring your vehicle in, it is a great opportunity to get an oil change, have your tires rotated, or have an alignment problem fixed. All in all, a recall is a chance to keep your vehicle in top running shape! And we like seeing you, too!
Thank you for being a part of the Beach Ford Family,
