Typical electronic stability control systems are designed to control yaw or spin-out only, but Ford’s AdvanceTrac® with RSC™ goes one important step further, adding a second gyroscopic roll sensor to determine the vehicle’s body roll angle and roll rate. If the sensor detects that the vehicle is about to roll, the system automatically applies additional counter measures (like reducing engine power 15 percent and/or applying brakes to one or more wheels.)
AdvanceTrac® with RSC™ is automatically engaged each time the vehicle is started, but the system also comes equipped with an on/off switch. This way, if drivers plan to do any low-speed off-roading, they can turn the system off, allowing the wheels to spin freely.
Lastly, an extra dimension of AdvanceTrac® with RSC™ is that it continually calculates if the vehicle may be approaching a situation where rollover is probable. If so, it automatically takes action to help enhance rollover resistance.
