Dear Beach Ford Family,
A successful business is made up of many things. Planning, money, ideas, marketing, service, follow-up, products, and the team. By far, the most important of these is “the team.” It’s almost a cliché since, by now, everyone has heard some variation of “the team” and the importance of being a good one in the business world. Yes, good teams and their ability to perform are crucial to any enterprise or purpose, but any really good team is always contains outstanding individuals. And in business, these individuals who are so crucial to “the team” have usually been around a while.
Beach Ford recently had its Holiday Party at Chic’s Oyster Bar off of Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. Each year this occasion allows me to recognize some of our team members who have truly made a career in the automotive business and have chosen to do this at Beach Ford. It is always a highlight of my Holiday Season when I get the chance to recognize some of our true professionals who have, in some cases, worked for decades in assisting Beach Ford customers with their transportation needs. We all know someone, be it the long time waiter at our favorite restaurant or person at the hardware store who knows you by name. The checkout clerk at the 7-11 where you get your morning coffee who always has a good word and a smile when you enter the store. These people are the heart of any business. They ARE the business!
This past week it was a pleasure to recognize some of the best team members in the history of Beach Ford. Our Parts Manager, Rick Hoover with 20 years. Service Technician, Jeff Ferrier also with 20 years. Diana Tase with 25 years and Jeff Tuell with 30 years, all at one dealership! Rose Moore, Tommy Martin, and Chris Moniere all hit the 15 years mark. Leon Baughns and Matt Cuthbertson both making 10 years helping our customers. Cecil Perry has been helping people realize their dream car or truck for over 41 straight years! I am often recognized in public, largely due to our TV advertising, but I will be the first one to tell you that I only make up a small part of what makes our company great. It is the people, like the ones I have listed, that make Beach Ford. Period.
Former Ford Motor Company boss and later at Chrysler, Lee Iacocca famously said, “In the end, all business operations can be reduced to three words: people, product, and profits. Unless you have a good team, you can’t do much with the other two.” Truer words have not been spoken. I am very grateful for the longevity and expertise of the Beach Ford team. They are the business.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
