When you see an ad for the new 2010 Taurus Sedan, take a picture of the squiggly little box in the corner with your smart phone and prepare to be amazed. Thanks to a new technology offered by Microsoft, Ford is transforming their traditional print advertisements into interactive multimedia displays.
Ford’s Adaptive Cruise Control improves on traditional cruise control by allowing the vehicle to automatically adapt to the speed of traffic surrounding it or to follow another vehicle at a set distance.
When activated by the driver, a microwave radar unit on the front of the vehicle determines the speed of any vehicle in the path, while the ACC computer continually commands the throttle and brakes.
With ACC, the driver selects a desired interval of speeds, while also specifying the desired cruise speed. The vehicle will proceed at the selected cruise speed until it encounters slower traffic. In this event, the speed is altered to follow the flow of traffic, while still maintaining the selected interval. When traffic clears, ACC resumes the desired cruise speed.
This new technology is now available on the 2010 Taurus, but Ford plans to incorporate the system into all of its vehicles.
